(ECNS) — Two Chinese men sustained serious head injuries after being attacked by four unidentified individuals in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward on Thursday morning, according to local media reports.
Japan's Jiji Press reported that the incident occurred around 9 a.m. when the two Chinese nationals were walking on the street. They were suddenly assaulted by four men wielding iron pipes, resulting in heavy bleeding and serious injuries to the victims' heads.
According to a witness, the attackers were wearing hooded sweatshirts and work uniforms, presumably to conceal their identities. After the assault, the suspects fled toward Akihabara Station and escaped in a vehicle with a Kansai-region license plate.
Local police have cordoned off the area where the attack took place, as well as surrounding locations along the suspects' escape route.
An investigation into the case is ongoing.
